Applications
The surface to be painted must be free of surface contaminants like dust or dirt. These contaminants interfere with the finished work causing the appearance of bubbles. Cold applied mma should not be used on this type of surfaces.
Once the surface has been properly cleansed methyl methacrylate cold plastic paint can be applied and allowed to dry. The longer the drying time, the longer it will last. However, road marking paint dries quickly within three to five minutes and methyl methacrylate cold paint can be applied to new or already painted surfaces.
We recommend the use of hand molds, brush or spray for smaller areas. Rollers can be used for larger areas like stop lines and yellow boxes.
Existing thermoplastic markings are applied hot and cure on laying. After application, heat is applied to melt the powder which then spreads on the road surface. A thick polymer layer which is abrasion resistant, bright and retro-reflective is formed on cooling. This product has a high level of reflectivity and delivers enhanced safety especially during dark hours.
The drawback of thermoplastic marking is the absence of high-slip and high-skid resistance and this increases the risk of road traffic accidents in winter or rainy season.
In order to increase safety, glass beads are added to recent thermoplastic paint to improve their anti-skid property.
What is the difference between thermoplastic road markings and MMA cold plastic markings?
Thermoplastic road markings require heat to cure rapidly and properly while MMA cold plastic markings cure by chemical activity.
Existing thermoplastic markings provided have the highest level of reflectivity when compared to MMA cold plastic markings. Whereas MMA cold plastic markings have the highest anti-skid and anti-slip properties.
